Specification

The DMS fibre optic displacement sensors are family of very high performance non contact displacement sensors. They have an internal microprocessor that provides direct output of distance and reflectance via RS-232, USB and analog interfaces. With resolutions down to 5 nm and measuring ranges from 20 µm to 50 mm and a 5 KHz frequency capability. Equipped with a built in LCD display showing distance and reflectivity these rugged sensors are very easy to use.

The DMS range of sensors are available in either the D Type or RC Type.

Options

The standard Philtec sensor package provides a stainless steel sensor tip, a 3 foot long fiberoptic cable sheathed with PVC over steel monocoil and DC-20 kHz bandwidth amplifier or DMS signal processing unit as one integral unit with the fiberoptic cable potted into the electonic enclosure.

Many options are available whereby the sensor tip, fiberoptic cable and/or the sensor electronics can be customized. Several options can be combined into one unit, but note - it should be realized that certain combinations of options are not achievable for all models. For example, it is not reasonable to expect to achieve high frequency response when combining replaceable tips with long fiberoptic cables and dark targets. Please contact us for clarification on allowable configurations.

Digital Output - the best choice for absolute distance measurements, multiplexing and process control applications.

With a digital output, it is possible to achieve a linearized distance output via the RS232 or USB connections with a 5kHz maximum data rate.

Digital sensors are eligible for the DMS control software (and updates) free of charge. The software can be used to:

  • setup the sensors for operation,
  • select calibration tables for specific targets,
  • store additional calibrations,
  • view live graphs of sensor outputs,
  • save data to file.
