Today we shipped our latest Proscan Defect Detection Measurement System (DDMS) to its new home with one of our main customers in the defence sector (check out the video).

Scantron has a long history of developing, building, and delivering high-precision non-contact measurement systems. It has a variety of clients in industries ranging from metal and plastic fabrication to aerospace and nuclear. Our deep expertise in the field of non-contact measurement, means that we can work alongside our clients to build solutions that meet or exceed their requirements.

The latest DDMS is large – weighing in at around 3 tonnes. But it’s not the biggest system we’ve built; that said, it’s still a large and very capable system. The table is made from a granite slab sat on top of a self-levelling air-table. These features reduce the impact of external vibration from the measurements letting us do lab quality measurements in the middle of a factory. We can detect and measure defects that are a few hundredths of a mm across and measure to sub-micron precision.

The Scantron Proscan DDMS is a fully automated, machine-learning approach to identification and measurement of scratches, pits, pinholes and surface deformations and roughness to sub-µm levels. It provides state-of-the-art automated smart defect detection, measurement and sentencing in one system.

This particular model can measure components up to 300 millimetres thick and 2 metres by 0.3 metres in size–and can scan more than 3.8 million points per second (click here for more information). However, we have the capability to build you a system to any size required.

We partner with a local speciality logistics firm to deliver our most precious measurement systems countrywide and internationally.
