Width Measurement With Antaris Spot
In the standard width measurement arrangement, two ANTARIS displacement sensors are mounted left and right of the roller table. They are aligned perpendicular in a way that the laser beams coincide if there is no slab in between. If there is a slab present, width is calculated by subtracting the two measured distances to the slab sides from the known distance between the sensors. The sensor position above the roller top depends on slab movement and thickness. Normally, it will be around 100 mm. If the material is too thin or there is too much vertical movement above the roller table, the ANTARIS BAND has to be used.
Width Measurement With Antaris Band Line
It measures with an expanded laser line instead of a laser spot. This laser line is orientated vertically, and has a length of about 60 mm. The sensors are placed so that the lower end of the line is aligned slightly above the top level of the roller table.
Length Measurement On The Front
Length measurement of slabs or billets can be placed on continuous roller tables as well as on roller tables with "death end". At the "deathend", measurement is done by using one triangulation sensor ANTARIS looking perpendicular on the slab front. One or several cascaded laser light barriers detect the rear side of the slab or billet. With the signal of the light barrier and the measured distance value on the front side the length is calculated.
Length measurement during running through is done by placing the triangulation sensor beside the roller table.
Length Measurement From The Side
Again, the rear side of the slab or billet is detected by light barriers. For getting the length, the angle of the sensor is compensated mathematically, and the calculated value is combined with the signals of the light barriers.
Width Measurement, Camber Detection
For width measurement in combination with camber detection, you place one sensor on one side of the roller table and three sensors on the opposite side.
The two additional sensors are located to the left and right of the standard width sensor. This arrangement makes it possible to detect camber even in case of slabs running tilted or moving transversal while passing the gauge.
Width Measurement, Side Profile
For slab with measurement in combination with side profile scanning, triangulation sensors ANTARIS SCAN are used.
The placement of the scanning sensors is similar to the normal width measurement,on opposite sides of the roller table. But the scanning laser beam does not only measure at one point. Instead it moves up and down over the complete edge. This way, monitoring the edge quality of the slabs will be expanded to a 2-dimensional measurement. Vertical scan range and scan frequency, will be adjusted in relation to the nominal thickness and in relation to the plate position on the roller table. Beside width, as additional result information is gathered about the shape of the edge, e.g. concave or convex.
