The object is a train bearing, which was scanned on our Bearing Eye.

This innovative product was originally developed to assess the damage caused by rolling contact fatigue on train wheel bearings. Bearing Eye scans both the inner and outer surfaces of the bearing using line lasers. The system then captures the data at high density with sub-micron-level accuracy. This allows for precise measurement of the surface as well as determining the depth and footprint of features such as cracks, pitting or surface damage. The system pictured here can scan >300mm diameter bearings, but we also have a development system capable of >750mm!

The XYZ+ rotation stage can be used for much more than bearings. Other application areas include turbine blades, pipes, couplings, weld inspection, etc.
